It’s not that you suddenly lose your mind, and it’s not exactly a “midlife crisis” either. It’s more like this:
the internal sense of what feels “right” begins to drift, little by little.
From your own perspective, everything still makes sense. You’re acting based on what you believe is reasonable, just like before. But from the outside, some of those choices can start to look… slightly off. Not dramatically wrong—just oddly misaligned.
This isn’t simply about effort or lifestyle. You can stay active, keep learning, do all the “right” things—and still notice this subtle shift. It’s less like a software problem you can fully fix, and more like a slow hardware drift.
So the point isn’t to “prevent” it completely. That’s probably unrealistic.
The more useful thing is just to know it exists.
Because when the moment comes—when something feels a bit off, or when you catch a small mismatch between what you expected and what you did—you might recognize it:
“Oh, this is that.”
That alone can be enough to pause, adjust, or at least not fully trust your first instinct.
If you want something practical, try doing things you’ve never done before. Not for the results, but to observe the gap between what you think you’ll do and what you actually do. That gap is where you’ll start to notice the drift.
You don’t have to fix everything.
Just noticing it already makes a difference.
